April 8, 2021-The Department of State has announced that it is working to reduce the backlog of immigrant and nonimmigrant visas at embassies and consulates that had been blocked by Presidential Proclamations under President Trump. Priority for immigrant visas include those that had been previously blocked and fiancé visas. The processing of nonimmigrant visa will be prioritized for travelers with urgent needs, foreign diplomats, mission-critical categories of travelers, followed by some students, exchange visitors, and some temporary employment visas.
